Continuing Education Guidelines

Current Requirements for Continuing Education

8 continuing education credits obtained each year and collected from one of the following categories:

  • 8 CE Credits for Modality
  • 8 CE Credits from Professional
  • 8 CE Credits from Self Directed studies
  • 8 CE Credits from Contributions to Shiatsu
  • 5 CE credits for first aid
  • 8 CE credits for attending the Annual General Meeting (AGM) (5 credits) and its Workshop (3 credits)
  • 2 day weekend courses will be accounted with 16 credits, being these credits split to 8 CE’s per year with a 1 year roll-over

NOTE: !!! Members are highly encouraged to diversify their sources of CE credits by choosing different categories each year. !!!

CE category explanations

Modality training

  • Shiatsu modules; other manual therapy modules, such as massage, cranio-sacral, reflexology, etc.; teacher training in active therapies such as yoga, Tai Chi, kinesiology, etc.; medical sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, etc.

Professional training

  • Business courses that apply to professional practice including online marketing, communication and counseling training

Self-directed studies

  • Refer to “Guidelines for Self-Directed Study” below

Contributions to Shiatsu

  • Serving on or chairing an Association committee; producing an educational document or video; submitting articles to print or online publications; etc.

CE Documentation:

A variety of submissions are accepted as documentation of continuing education hours:

  • course certificate with a receipt stating course hours, or a curriculum breakdown,
  • copy of the course brochure with a copy of your receipt of

NOTE: !!! If neither available a CE Study Self-Report Form is available, upon request, for you to complete with your own summarization of the course content to be presented along with proof of payment or completion. !!!

 

Guidelines for Self-Directed Study

  • The Shiatsu Therapy Association Education Committee also has an option for Self-Directed study available to its members. A Self-directed Study Evaluation form is available on the website for you to complete with your own report of course of study.
  • This policy allows members to do their own research and/or course development in areas of study pertaining to the practice of Shiatsu Therapy.
  • Where members find relevant information on-line or through the library system they may report the:
    • Text/Journal Articles Reviewed
      • Page numbers and Proper APA citation methods to be utilized.
      • Members are required to complete the Self-directed Study Evaluation Form with appropriate reference to subject material in order to receive credit for self-directed study.
      • Members are highly encouraged to submit Self-Directed Study content to the newsletter committee in the form of an article for further CE credits. Any article published in the STA Newsletter will receive 3 CE Credits.
